The company's name is a combination of my first name (Kenya) and the Swahili term for creativity, also the 6th principle of Kwanzaa (KUUMBA). I have been creating handmade items since middle school, however it was only recently that I decided to take my craft seriously.

 

kenyaKUUMBA was birthed from a need for a creative outlet to offset some of the stresses I was dealing with while in college. Initially, I would only make things for myself and occasional gifts for special people, but I never thought about starting a business. As it turns out, one of those gifts would be the catalyst that would lead to the establishment of kenyaKUUMBA, LLC. I made my first Royalty Bear as a first birthday gift for a friend's son and posted the finished product on my Instagram. To my surprise, people began to ask me if I could make bears for them! Since then, I've sold about 40 Royalty Bears and I've expand my product line to include bags and accessories.
